Kokeshi style; incised circle on base, paper label attached. Wide red and narrow green bands at top and bottom; irregular shoulder; cylinder slightly concave; two red flowers on front, small flowers either side; black bow at top of head. Surface damage.

History Of Use

Kokeshi are simple wooden Japanese dolls crafted as toys for children. Originally from the northeastern region of Japan, they are handmade from wood, having a simple, round trunk and head, without arms or legs. They have been in use for at least 150 years.
