Kokeshi style; straight cylinder rounded at top; four flowers at lower front, two on shoulders suggestion of kimono and obi; red and green hair ornament. Thirty-six characters on back; two on base.

History Of Use

Kokeshi are simple wooden Japanese dolls crafted as toys for children. Originally from the northeastern region of Japan, they are handmade from wood, having a simple, round trunk and head, without arms or legs. They have been in use for at least 150 years.
