Description

Small brass kohl container. Round petal-like opening at the top which narrows at the neck to a small opening. The outer surface has a series of bands in the metal that expand to the widest point near the centre. The widest part appears to be where the upper and lower sections were joined, and have a rounded petal-like edge protruding all the way around. The piece then narrows again at the stem, then widens to a round base.

History Of Use

Used to hold kohl (surma), used as eye cosmetic.

Narrative

Purchased by the donor between 1968-1971, during a period when she was living in Pakistan.
