Description

Kachina figure, carved and painted. Small standing figure on small mound-like base. Figure wears long cape, headdress, long tunic, belt, black leggings and red boots. The headdress has many components – coral, two black horizontal lines, three turquoise horizontal bands, three black feathers with red bands, tie in the back. The figure’s hands rest at the belt on their waist. Written on base, '“Takush Mana” by Rick James'.

Narrative

Purchased at a Hopi Reservation c. 1987 in Arizona. At the time, it was possible to enter the Reservation and watch ceremonies, and there was a shop in the Hopi Cultural Center.
