Drawing Item Number: 3583/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Ink on paper drawing depicting a somewhat abstract serpent-like creature, stretched across the page. It has a long body, with its hind legs at the bottom right of the page; the body then curves up towards the left side, where it has its front legs, with its head turned, looking to the right. The scenery is composed of a solid ground in the foreground, with two bands indicating where the creature stands on the ground, a tree along the left edge, and a jut of land in the background. Signed by artist.

Narrative

3583/1-2 are the original drawings used to illustrate a book of songs by Chief Sepass (Skowdale), recorded by Eloise Street in 1963, called "Sepass Tales: The Songs of Y-Ail-Mihth." (E. Street was the donor's mother-in-law.)
