Rice Dish Item Number: 3559/52 a-h from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Clay dish with seven round indents (part a), each with its own cover, or lid (parts b-h); indents then function as feet for dish. Top of dish is painted(?) a darker shade than the natural clay; lids and base of dish are unglazed. Edges of dish curve upward slightly; sides are decorated with scallops, using clay from underside of dish. All covers are cone-shaped and have circular knobs on top, for handling.

History Of Use

Sweet rice maker dish. Rice would be placed in each indentation, under a lid, then steamed over heat.
