Description

Pair of leather boots decorated with geometric applique. Boots made up of four pieces of leather: soles, vamps, and front and back halves of uppers. Soles, vamps, and back of uppers are undecorated; coloured brown-orange. Front uppers dyed dark brown; applique stitched across surface, forming rectangular panel. Design consists of column of diamonds, framed on either side by triangles; rounded triangles in each corner of rectangle. Bottom and sides trimmed with wide bands; top edge undecorated. Applique done in brown-orange, beige, and turquoise. Opening of boots are finished; pull tabs on back edges.

Narrative

Purchased by Peter Oberlander on his frequent trips to Africa, sometime between 1958-1990. Oberlander was teaching and consulting in Ghana, and consulting for the UN in Nigeria and Kenya.
