Description

Hollow, circular silver bracelet with back centre opening. Exterior of bracelet is decorated with incised patterns, and raised carvings; interior is undecorated. Band is circular and gradually widens to an oval-shape in centre. Sides have five patterned bands along their lengths. Bands closest to open ends are filled with alternating triangles and dots; other bands are filled with connected diamonds. Centre of bracelet has a raised rectangle with three rows of diamonds through the middle; diamonds alternate between plain, and decorated with dots. Three circles protrude out of rectangle, at sides and in centre; circles are decorated with dots in concentric patterns. Dots and zigzags incised along top and bottom sides of centre section of bracelet. Ends of bracelet are circular and have holes cut out in their centres.

Narrative

The donor's parents lived in Saudi Arabia from 1982-1992, while her father was working there. The items (3553/1-4) are thought to have been purchased at one of the local markets, possibly in the old town of Yanbu, as they were living in the new town of Yanbu at the time; or possibly in Riyadh.
