Description

Drawing reconstruction of a Nuxalk house-screen, in horizontal orientation; done in pencil. Drawing is of a bird shown in profile, facing left side of print. Figure has large wings pointed downward, clawed feet, a thin beak, and angled, pointed protrusions towards the back of the body; formline design elements throughout interior. Overall drawing has a rectangular outline with two horizontal lines through it, going overtop designs, and forming three sections; grey bands along all short edges of sections. Title, artist signature, and date made written in bottom right corner.

Narrative

Drawing is based on a Nuxalk house front, photographed in the village of Komkotes in 1873. [See 'The Transforming Image' (2022), Page IX, Fig. 2.]
