Description

Drawing reconstruction of a plank for a Tsimshian house-front screen in vertical orientation; done in pencil and maroon pencil crayon. Drawing is of left profile of a figure with a large head, circular body and tail; formline design elements throughout interior. Diagonal maroon band along top edge, above figure. Rectangle-like outline, with a ragged bottom edge, overtop drawing, imitating house plank drawing is based off of. Description and artist signature written along bottom edge of drawing.

Narrative

Drawing is based on a house screen board from a Tsimshian village site near the mouth of the Skeena River, collected by Marius Barbeau in 1915. Wilson consulted infrared photographs of the boards to reconstruct their visible components, using coloured pencil on mylar.
