Scarf Item Number: 3275/2 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Black, dark red and deep blue patterned head scarf, made of a thin, square synthetic fabric hemmed around the edges. The pattern is divided into four square sections on a black background. Each section has a central dark red circular design with spokes, surrounded by twelve smaller red circular designs. The smaller circular designs that are positioned at the corners of the design contain a deep blue oval inside of white circle at the centre. The square sections are framed by two dark red squares with a repeating pattern of alternating pointed ovals between the squares in deep blue and dark red with a circle in the centre.
Collected by the donor in Istanbul in 1993. Provenance uncertain, possibly Central Asian origin?
