Description

Coiled basket, slightly discoloured, tightly sewn, and has a balanced, even pattern. This basket has different stitching than typical baskets, with stitches wrapping around two rows of cedar roots, rather than just one, the bottom of the basket is representative of a slat bottom. The basket is a pale yellowish white, with medium brown details.

Notes

coil baskets which are unique to the Coast Salish area, originated in the Nlaka’pamux (Thompson) area and were shared with the Stó:l? people (Lower Fraser)
