Description
silver with some color deterioration, purple silk ribbon. memorial cross with arms slightly flared at the ends with a wreath of laurel leaves appearing between the arms of the cross. On the face, the Royal Cypher appears In the center of a Greek cross superimposed on the main cross, with the royal crown at the end of the upper arm and maple leaves on the three remaining arms. The reverse is plain with 'K. 654 Rfn. W.J.J. WILLIAMS' written in 2 lines(The service number, substantive rank at time of death, initials and surname of the person being commemorated are engraved on two lines in the center). There is also a sterling mark on the lower arm.
Notes
The memorial cross and purple memorial ribbon were issued to commemorate the death. The deceased CF member must have served in the Regular Force, Primary Reserve, Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service (COATS) or Canadian Rangers on or after 1 October 1947 and have been a result of a duty-related injury or illness which was sustained on or after october 1 1947. These were then recieved by the recipients spouse, surviving child, parents or eldest living sibling. Medals and papers from veterans affairs for W.J.J. (Walter John James) Williams. Includes medals earned during his time in service, notice of K.I.A status from the Canadian Government, newspaper clippings of W.J.J's regiment, and photographs of Walter and Louisa before Walter went to war. Dates ranged on medals from 193_ - 1945. Archives accession number is 2023.002
