Adze Blade Item Number: 2023.O.007:22 from the Sto:lo Research & Resource Management Centre

Description

A large adze blade, the belonging is a light opaque grey with a very fine almost smooth grain.
The body is thick with a long protruding flat point. At the neck of the protruding point, on the dorsal face, there's an impact site with some compression ripples.There's some removal sites strategically where the sinew would be tied, on the underside of the neck base, and on the opposite side near the squared off end- There's also an indent along the top of the protruding point. The ventral face has some flake arrises.

Collected by Cyril Holbrow throughout his lifetime (1921-2021,) Found while living on his farming properties- he was a naturalist and knew the area very well. He donated his finds to the Clayburn Village Community Society.
