Weaving Tool Item Number: A8112 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Wooden tool with a cylindrical shaped head attached to a long rounded shaft that tapers to a point at one end.

Narrative

The use of this item is uncertain. It has been referred to as a "spindle shaft", "spindle whorl", and spinning weight", but seems to be the wrong shape and size. It resembles a basketry awl in appearance, but those are generally made out of bone or antler. Another possibility is that it is part of a spinning machine.
