Sitting figure with lines on high forehead, and design around top of head representing octopus tentacles. Figure holds a halibut, with its tail in her mouth. Red ochre pigment overall, but most noticeably on forehead, ears, mouth and nostrils.

Narrative

Removed from display by request of Tlingit community member as a potential shamanistic piece. Many carvings similar to this one were made by Tlingit artists for sale to collectors. This piece came from the Young collection, and may have once been part of the E. H. Verney collection. Verney was captain of a boat, c. 1862-64, that traveled along the coast of B.C.
