Spoon Item Number: A8202 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Wooden spoon with leaf shaped bowl and long slender handle. The handle narrows towards the end, and then widens into an oval finial. The bottom of the spoon is rounded. The wood is a natural yellow-brown colour.

History Of Use

Along the Northwest Coast, in general, undecorated spoons of wood and horn were used in everyday life, while more elaborately carved versions were used on special occassions. The bowls of these spoons are too large to place in the mouth, so food is sipped from the sides or the end.
