History Of Use

A large safety pin, typical of the type worn with Scottish kilts. May have been used to secure a wool dance robe. Pamela Amoss notes that: "All women who are dancers have large, square woolen shawls with hand-knotted yarn fringes. These may be secured at the neck with a pin or merely wrapped around the shoulders (1978:101)."
