Description

Small basketry cradle with interlocking coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with parallel slat base construction and overcast rim. Each side towards the head end, has four red stripes (2 stitches wide, 3 rows high). Each side has seven black stripes (1 row wide, 4 high) at the foot end. The top end has six black stripes and the tail end has two red modified stripes. There are also thin skin straps attached near the four corners of the cradle as handles.

According to Sto:lo elders small basketry cradles, such as this one, were made for cherished grandchildren as toys.
