Description

Bent horn that has been tied to form a rattle; cotton strips are wrapped around the handle. Lead shot is inside the rattle to make noise.

Philip Drucker notes that: "horn of both mountain sheep and mountain goat was used for various purposes, after being softened in boiling water to permit shaping and molding (1955:51)."

Narrative

This rattle was previously thought to be mountain goat horn, but its size and appearance suggests that it is more likely mountain sheep.
