Description

Box drum composed of bent cedar and painted in black, red and white with a copper on each opposite side and an eagle on each opposite end. An indented circle is carved into each end wall on the inside of the drum.

Narrative

Purchased by Mr. Edward Miller in 1920 from an old traditional house in Duncan. The house, now gone, was reportedly decorated with northern motifs modified by a Salish painter. The previous owner said that the box was more than 150 years old at that time.
