Stone slab with grooves for four fingers and the thumbs.

Narrative

The pile driver is said to have been found in some sand in the Dean River by someone (either Mrs. G. A. Elsey or M. H. McLean?) connected with the Talchako Lodge in Bella Coola in 1959. The object was purchased from Mrs. Elsey for the Museum by H.R. MacMillan.

Iconographic Meaning

Said to have the face of a 'sniniq', a monster with long hair and sharp talons, who walked upright.
