Description

D-adze with a blade has been made from a file. Leading end flared to a slightly curved sharp edge. Bound onto wooden handle with leather thong fastened through a hole in the handle. Handle is well polished wood carved with a bird's head and beak on the back end.

The bird figure depicted on the handle of this adze is stylistically similar to other bird forms depicted on Coast Salish weaving tools in the collection. For example, birds are commonly found on Coast Salish mat creasers.
