Description

Single circular oil bowl; spout for wick has a small projection on either side and is opposite a handle on which a bird perches. Rim of bowl is patterned in raised ribbing; a ring on rim may have supported pendant decorations. Midway up stem, another bird form is incorporated; round base also patterned in raised ribbing.

For use in a small temple or household. Important Hindu ritual object; it is among the nine essential forms of worship.
