Stylized chair, base and seat forming bowl and spout for wick. Central female figure in arch-like chair back has a profile of an elephant on either side. Panel below has a monstrous face and peacocks at each side. Another monstrous face at top of arch. Double band of raised dots around base.

History Of Use

For daily use in a small temple or household. The light of a lamp is a symbol of the presence of god in the Hindu belief.

Iconographic Meaning

Central female probably represents Lakshmi, consort of Vishnu.
