Fire Stick Item Number: Aa80 a-b from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

A smooth, light brown stick blackened at the thicker end (part a). One end is slightly tapered, the other, rounded. The base is a roughly carved dark brown stick (part b), stripped and flattened in the centre, with a round blackened hole.

History Of Use

Base held steady between feet. Stick end placed at notch on base and twirled between both hands creating glowing wood dust. Fungus tinder or decayed wood tinder is added and blown upon, sometimes by a second person.
