Woman's Parka1005/1

Woman's parka made of brown fur, with a lighter fur lined hood and delta trim around the bottom of the coat and arms. The delta trim is used at the seam between the dropped shoulder and the sleeve as well as at the bottom edge of the coat and sleeve. The trim around the dropped shoulders is made up of thin strips of red, green and blue cotton fabric and yellow ricrac sewn in a linear design. The trim around the cuff of the sleeves is a band of white fur. The trim around the bottom of the coat is white fur with two brown facing triangles. There is a thin red band above the triangles, a thin green band below and a thicker band of red along the bottom of the white trim. There are long fur fringes under the trim on the shoulders and under the hood on the front and back. The skin side of the fringes is dyed red.

The bag is made of seven pieces of caribou skin and stitched together with sinew. Four long narrow pieces of skin are stitched together to form the rounded bottom and sides of the bag. Three thin bands are sewn around the opening of the bag.

Boy's outer coat, or parka, of brown caribou fur. The coat has a rounded close fitting hood, the crown is slightly pointed. The coat is thigh length and has a slit in the middle of the front. The hood, bottom and split are trimmed with white caribou fur. Groups of fringes are attached to this white trim along the bottom. A brown fur mitt trimmed with a broad band of white fur is attached to the right sleeve. (Note: photo shows inner and outer coats together, A2.514-15.)
