One 2-strand braided plant fiber fragment with sediments.On previous tag written in black ink "45KI8/273", in pencil "3-2" and "i". Find #273 on Field Catalog Form lists the provenience as Unit 3, Level 2, Vert. 11"(3), Description as "Braided fibre(grass?)", Association as AF-71. Field #71 on Notebook #1 lists "Unit: 3, Surf. D: 11" from stake 3, 27" of stk 3, Harmon, 7/6, Remarks: "Fell out of wall, at point measured, at dung layer, which is under layer of rocks." (Pan Yi, 03/02/2010)
One fragment of basketry. Previous tag in separate bag written in black ink "45-KI-8/291", in pencil "B-8"/FN157/Box3.7" and "4E16/box3.7" (on the back). Find #291 on the Field Catalog Form lists the provenience as: Unit B-Block B, Level 1, 8"(d), Comments: "AF-157." Field #157 on Field notebook #1 lists "B, 8" below datum, 10" of NW, 51" of NE, Geisa, 7/20/53". (Pan, Yi, 02/23/2010) Note that 4E16/box3.7 refers to a cataloging record developed by Curator Dr. Robert Greengo and does not indicate additional data.
One cordage fragmant made of plant fiber. The paper tag associated with the fragment reads: "45KI8 120. 2S2-4, FN-16" Field Catalog Form lists the provenience as "Unit 2S2, Level 4 (handwritten), Description: 2 frags braided reeds, Associations: Grass layer." Artifact Record Notebook 1 #16 reads: Site: 45KI8, Description: Cordage, Sq. or Pit: 2S2, Surf D: 14 1/2", Loc. 28" S of Stk. 3S2, 62" W of Stk. 3S1, By: Claude Warren, 6/24" Student Note: Artifact Record Book No. 1 indicates that the cordage was found at a depth of 14.5", while the Field Catalog Form notes that the item was found in Level 4. Metal spear, with a heavily corroded iron blade, and a braided two-color copper wire handle/haft. Research on spears suggests that it most closely resembles a Zulu "Iklwa" stabbing spear. This is puzzling since the spear was dug up on a high bluff on Bainbridge Island. Mr. Enright, the property owner said that no non-natives had lived at that site until his family purchased the property.
