Very heavy brown and orange, flat weave wool textile. Eight horizontal stripes of varying widths are embroidered with geometric motifs onto the surface of one side of the textile; some of the embroidered motifs are very densely worked and closely stitched, while others are simple and more open. Embroidered motifs are worked in black, dark blue, green, brown and off white wool yarn. Hemmed at top and bottom. The back side of the textile is a darker shade of orange than the face of the textile.

Dress Panel Textile1201/28

Densely embroidered square textile, stitched overall with meandering patterns worked in orange thread in chain stitch on a background of purple silk or cotton textile. The design field is divided into four equally sized squares, separated from one another with rows of narrow gold metallic braid. The textile is embellished with five large (4 cm) ornamental discs, made from several layers of black cotton textile, topped with a layer of red cotton textile and embellished with white cowrie shells, blue glass beads and white shell buttons; one of these discs is located at the centre of each of the four sides of the textile, and there is one in the centre. The textile is edged with blue and white glass beading on all four sides. The embroidery is backed with a layer of dark red cotton textile.

Small, rectangular, multicoloured, embroidered bag, with three edges closed, one edge left open to form a flat bag. The closed edges are trimmed with blue and white beading, and the open edge is bound with purple silk. Embroidered designs are worked in orange thread on a red ground, with small touches of purple, green, and bright pink. Embroidered designs are geometric, consisting of whorls and x-shaped figures, organized into border designs, squares and rectangles. Rows of metallic and red sequins are used to accent the shapes within the design field. The embroidery is backed with rust coloured silk or cotton textile. The two sides of the flat bag are identical in colour and style of embroidery, but differ slightly in the choice of motifs.

Table Runner456/10

A small hand woven rectangular table runner, predominantly pink, with wide and narrow multi-coloured horizontal woven bands. The main design is consisting of a pattern with three narrow bands interspersed between two wide bands. The narrow bands have a main design consisting of central white and black line outlined by red, orange, yellow, green, and red and bordered by black squares. The wide bands have a main design consisting of a central stripe of green, orange-red, and deep red geometric shapes on a yellow-orange background. Directly at either side of this central stripe of these wide bands, there are the following other stripes: a white and black line; black geometric shapes on a bright yellow background outlined by green and red; and bordered by black geometric shapes. There is a white fringe at either end.

A densely embroidered, multi-coloured cuff, consisting of a wide band (13.4 cm) joined to form a cylindrical shape. Embroidered designs in the form of large X’s and asterisk-shapes, worked in red floss outlined in light gray-white on brown cotton textile, alternate in the central design field, and there are bands of red, orange and light gray-white embroidered geometric designs at the edges. There are two large pompoms, one orange and one red, sewn to the seam where the two ends of the band are joined.

A coarsely woven square off-white cotton pillowcase with bands of red and black geometric designs embroidered in counted cross stitch, in stylized snowflake, chevron, and flower patterns. The back is made of plain off-white cotton broadcloth with a slit for inserting the pillow.

Flat, rectangular, envelope-style, embroidered purse with triangular flap located on one short end. One side is detailed with densely worked counted-thread gold metallic embroidery and edged with blue beadwork. The design follows the shape of the purse, with a central panel and borders, worked in flat stitches which form various textures. On the reverse side, there are two rectangular panels that form pockets. The two ends fold together with the opening at the triangular flap. Lined with printed plaid cotton flannelette.

White brimless hat, lined, with a circular crown and straight vertical rim. Elaborately embroidered with silver filaments, pearls(?) and silver sequins. Crown is patterned with four teardrop shapes made of looping metallic filaments and pearls(?). Crown bordered by a row of sequins. Rim is embroidered with a row of upright teardrop shapes, pearls and looped filler pattern and is bordered with a band of sequins.
