Mask in a black colour. Ram horns protruding from the jaw. Wings at the sides of the face. Surmounted by a hornbill(?) crest.
Headdress, or mask, depicting a human face with pointed lips, stylized ears, and raised rows of hair with incised lines, and three incised almond-shaped clan scarifications on the cheeks as well as the forehead. A chicken is depicted sitting on top of the the figure's head with its wings relaxed downwards, tail pointing upwards, and legs dangling down at the back of the head. The headdress is painted with white eyes, a white scalp with black hair, blue scarifications, and alternating white and blue bands delineate the chicken's feathers.
Helmet mask with a domed shape that has a small face, elaborate ridged coiffure surmounted by a bird, and a sisal fringe around base. Highly polished.
Mask with circular cut out eyes outlined by tin. Has a nose and an open mouth. Feathers secured to the top with resin in between two upright horns. Long brown fur on the chin. Cloth straps at the back.
Mask of a horned human head, painted black with red, yellow and white geometric designs. Moveable jaw fastened with rubber strips. Long raffia hair attached at back in green, yellow and orange.
Brown wood helmet mask of an animal with bulbous eyes, ears, and horns. Large open mouth with jaws and very large teeth, five and six pairs deep. Upper teeth have incised diagonal lines. Fabric band across the forehead decorated with cowrie shells and extends back around the top of the head where a horn is attached at either side. Inside and back are filled with a light brown raffia-like material.
Yam mask made of tightly woven plant fibre around a stick frame with a large crest edged with feathers, a long, narrow, circular ridge as a nose, large bulbous eyes, and a small protruding oval mouth and tongue. The face of the mask is mostly an ochre red, while the lower portion around the mouth is black at the bottom with tan areas from the lower outside edge to the black. The nose is a tall ridge along the entire face down to the mouth, mostly red but with white along the edge and black in line with the face. The eyes are large white woven balls which protrude from either side of the nose ridge, with tan irises and small holes in the centre. The crest is roughly triangular with rounded edges rising to a point above the face, edged with soft white feathers with brown tips. The crest begins at the top of the face with a black triangle, outlined by widening stripes to create the shape of the crest. These stripes are: tan, then a red stripe made up of loops of basketry to create a fence-like appearance, then a white stripe, then a black stripe made of loops of basketry, and then a final tan stripe along the edge. The edge of the woven crest is tied with string to a stick that goes around the edge, the feathers are attached to the stick. The back and inside of the mask are unpainted plant fibre.
Turtle shell and basketry face mask. The dark red clay(?) face is built on the rounded outside of a turtle shell and surrounded by a thick basketry edge with a woven loop at the top for hanging. The mask has short, curly, dark brown hair attached along the top of the forehead. The face is painted with a black pigment with horizontal stripes and rows of triangles. The narrow pointed nose, mouth, and ears are prominently built-out with clay, and detailed. The mouth is painted black with a red slit down the centre of the bottom lip. The ears are pierced with a hole at the top, outer, and bottom edges. The eyes are inlaid cowrie shells with built out eye sockets and horizontal black stripes underneath. The edge of the face is outlined with face down cowrie shells. The forehead has another row of smaller shells inside the cowrie shells. A trio of the same small shells is inlaid into each cheek in a triangle shape. The back of the mask is the inside of the bare turtle shell, stained black with holes along the edge where the basketry is attached.
Pink metal mesh chinelo dancer's mask with a matted fibre beard, moustache, and eyebrows. Brows gently curve overtop oval-shaped eyes, with long lashes. Moustache curves sharply at ends, curling up around sides of face; beard has similar curve and protrudes outward from mask. Face has a large slanted mouth and rosy cheeks. Eyes, mouth and cheeks are painted on; thin nose is shaped from mesh. Mask is edged with painted fabric; yellow tie across back, for hanging purposes.
Vejigante carnival mask of painted paper mache construction. Mask is mainly painted a light grey-blue, with purple and white dots, and purple dashes on the horns. The white face with cut-out holes at the eyes and mouth. There are floral-like designs in gold and purple that spiral out from around the eyes. The eye sockets and nostrils are painted purple, with large false lashes glued to the upper edge of the eye sockets. Three long curved horns project out from the top and sides. The top, centre horn extends up, and curves forward, and has a small gold cross in front of green fern-like leaves. The right horn curls forward, in front of the face, and the left horn curls up and over the head. The top of the head is lined with four large red flowers with yellow stamens, and two orange and black butterfly. On both sides, a small painted white metal key hangs from the horns. The snout has a large open mouth with black stitching along the lips, and three pointed white teeth with red gums. Black, grey and red ribbons are tied to each side of the mask and hang down. The interior is painted red. Signed and dated inside.
