Ceramic figure of Kwannon. Figure is feminine representation, kneeling on one knee and holding a scroll in both hands, with hair dressed on top of head, covered by a high headdress. Robes, in several layers, are white with light blue/green edges, enamelled overglaze with white dots and scroll patterns, and with blue, green, red, and hold leaf designs. Figure has red and gold waistband, gold necklace and hair ornament.

History Of Use

Probably used as an object of worship in a home or temple. Kwannon is a bodhisattva, a deity of mercy. This deity may take a male or female form. It is female in this representation.
