Description

Print showing a household scene of a man holding an infant, a girl sitting on a rail, facing him, and anolder man sitting inside. Water and boats are shown below the house. Colours are brown, green, blue, yellow, pink and black. Black Japanese characters and red symbol in lower left corner, red characters in lower right corner. The mount is marked "Made in Japan".

Narrative

This print, Funayado (船やど; boat operator’s house) by Wada Sanzō (和田三造) is from the series, Showa shokugyō ezukushi (昭和職業絵尽; Occupations of Shōwa Japan in pictures, series no. 2), originally published by Nishinomiya shoin (西宮書院) in 1939 –1941. The original version has hand-written print and series titles. This print published by Kyoto hanga-in (京都版画院) is from a later edition. The print is signed三造 (Sanzō) with his seal in red and is marked with the publisher’s seal, 版元京都版画院 (Hanmoto Kyoto hanga-in; published by Kyoto hanga-in).
