Narrative

This print is called Ōmi, Biwako, Ishiyamadera (近江 琵琶湖 石山寺; Ōmi Province: Lake Biwa, Ishiyama Temple) from the series Rokujūyoshū meisho zue (六十余州名所図絵; Famous Places in the Sixty-odd Provinces). The printed is signed 廣重筆 (Hiroshige hitsu). The original series, published from 1853–1856 has a seal of the block cutter Horitake (彫竹), but this print does not have any marks of a block cutter, printer or publisher. It is a later reprint/impression from the early twentieth century. Collected by James and Mary Fyfe-Smith in 1911.
