Tile Item Number: Edz1434 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Large blue-green glazed tile with an open lattice design, a central floral motif and scalloped interior corners. Traces of mortar adhering to sides.

History Of Use

Made in many districts and almost universally used in China, architectural tiles without distinctive iconographical elements may date to any time from at least the beginning of the Ming Dynasty (1368 C.E.). It is likely this tile was used in a free standing wall, such as the parapet of a bridge, since it is glazed on two sides.
