Description

Deep, red clay bowl with vertical sides and undifferentiated rim. Base separated from body with narrow scotia. Two ring handles round in section emerge from body horizontally just below rim. Body of cup is covered with black glaze except for underside of base, which is left reserved except for outer edge and two circles around a central dot.

History Of Use

Used as a drinking cup but also included in grave goods.

Narrative

This collection was said to have been acquired by James George during his service in Greece (Athens) from 1945-48. J.W. Hayes thought the cup might be of Boeotian origin.
