Description

Print depicting a female figure seated next to a screen with a cabinet that has a lotus-like flower painted on the doors. There is a black and white floral print box on top of the cabinet, and there are two columns of text on a reddish-brown ground as well as two seals printed over the screen.

Narrative

The print is signed Toyokuni ga (豊國画). From around 1850 on, almost all his prints have the signature enclosed in a Toshidama waku (年玉枠) or cartouche. By around 1860 most prints were only signed with Toyokuni ga (豊國画) in these cartouches (mostly red but sometimes yellow).
