Description

Circular white earthenware dish with ring base, concave well and wide, articulated everted rim. A coat of arms covers the top rim width showing a rampant animal on left side in a scrolled shield beneath a crown. Painted in blue, brown and yellow.

History Of Use

This plate once belonged to dinner services. Possibly made for a branch of the Orsini family, specifically Orsini de Rivalta from the Piedmont region. The coronet above the shield signifies the Orsini’s status as counts.
