Blanket Item Number: Sa459 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Hand-made traditional style wool blanket in natural colours. Large rectangular shape with two fringed ends. Almost whole blanket has light brown and cream-coloured horizontal stripes. Each end has a cream-coloured section with one solid brown stripe and one geometrically patterned light brown stripe. The cream-coloured fringes are short and vary in length.

Narrative

The blanket was purchased by the collectors at the Quinto Viernes festival in the San Pedro Necta market. The sellers come to the market only once a year, for this festival (held the fifth Friday before Easter). The blanket was made with a particularly old, traditional design, used by all Mayans.
