Description
Two miniature wooden men wearing long robes with their heads trapped through two holes in a rectangular, horizontal plank. The plank has a seam down the centre and black characters circled in red written accross the top. The figures stand on a flat, rectangular wooden base.
Narrative
Translation of Chinese characters on top (top to bottom, right to left): Huang Pu River government department / Shanghai Court / Someone who committed a heavy crime. An inscription was also written on the base in English: "In the stocks for punishment."
