Description

Round, brown basket with a flat bottom and slightly flared sides. Base is made from a circular birch bark panel with a white and brown maple leaf design of stitched porcupine quills in the centre. Two bands of coiled sweet grass with a single band of zigzagging open work between them comprise the sides; coiled sweet grass sides are all stitched with black thread.

Originally lent to MOA in 1949 by Edna Darby. Edna was originally from Ontario; perhaps this piece was collected by her in Ontario, or gifted to her by a relative in Ontario?
