Description

A woman's woven belt with red, and blue geometric motifs on an off-white background. Lined and stiffened with a light-weight cotton canvas band. Tied with red and blue twisted wool cords trimmed with large red pompoms that have blue centres.

History Of Use

Saami always wear a belt with the tunic bloused above it. This forms a pouch where small items are carried. Women's belts are hand-made of bright folk weave or are appliqued in bright designs and are used to hold a needle case and other items for sewing.
