Description

The skirt is made of brown grasses with painted palm leaves. The grass is woven into a thick fibre band along the top of the skirt. Also woven into the band are palm leaves decoratively cut and painted red, orange and brown.

History Of Use

This was used as a "loin ornament," according to old documentation from the Sisters of Saint Ann Museum.

Narrative

The documentation from the Sisters of Saint Ann Museum says this was acquired from Father W. Palmer, c. 1920. This is assumed to be the same Father Palmer that Frank Burnett obtained Fijian pieces from, for his own collection.
