Description

Platform of an irregularly shaped block of soft wood which has one rounded end from which location the object begins to taper down to an indented band cut in the other end. Two smooth cavities drilled into one side.

History Of Use

Provided a base for wooden drill to build up sufficient friction and heat to start a fire.

Narrative

According to the old Museum ledger, Ian M. Mackinnon presented Frank Burnett with this collection of Inuit objects. They were collected during his three years of residence in the Coppermine River area, probably 1921-24.
