Description

Ceremonial apron with long wool tassles hanging from a short band of embroidery. Tassles are predominantly red, but also have four strands of white tassles. There are also shorter fringe tassles on either side of the embroidered band. The band has colourful geometric embroidery in the centre with silver, red, and black zigzag embroidery above and below it. It is bordered by green and purple S-shaped appliqued embroidery. There are two black ties on either corner of the band, used to tie around the wearer's waist.

Narrative

The 1949 acquisition sheet listed this group of items as: "ceremonial dress items, Shokatz slavic tribe, Darauya Prov. Hungary S.W. Roumanian".
