Margrit Reif (nee Baiersdorf de Erdos) was born to councilor Carl Baiersdorf von Erdos and Clara (nee Redlich). Margrit married Otto Reif. Margit and Otto Reif left Austria for England after the Nazi invasion of Austria and immigrated to Canada in 1939, ending up in Vancouver. After World War II, Margrit contacted T.P.O Menzies, the Vancouver City Museum's Secretary and Curator, in an effort to find her sister Erna work in Canada. Erna then immigrated to Vancouver, and worked at the City Museum for four years, eventually as Curator of the Anthropological and Paleontological Department.
