Description
Basket woven with two strand twined weaving. Top border done in twine weave alternated with twisted weave (three weft strands). Three darker bands resulting from two-strand twined weave with one of the weft strands of dyed spruce root and one of natural spruce root.
Narrative
This spruce-root cylindrical basket appears to be of Haida origin, but the collector (pre-1932) had tagged it as having been collected in Alert Bay. The basket may have been mislabelled by the collector, or it might have ended up in a Kwakwaka'wakw community through trade or intermarriage.
