Unfinished Figure Item Number: 3145/3 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Seed partially covered with woven plant fibre. 4 long strands of light yellow fibre hang loose from the ends of the weaving. Second piece in a four part series (see 3145/2,4,5).

Specific Techniques

The artist uses the fibre of the gumba tree. It is cut, soaked in water for a week and then spun into a twine called 'manji'. Formerly the weavings were supported by a rattan frame, but Angelina has developed the use of gourds and seeds as a basis for the weavings.

Narrative

3145/2-5 is a four part series showing the process of making a woven flying fox figure.
