Carol Elizabeth Mayer is a curator at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC (Vancouver). She and husband Ken Mayer immigrated to Canada in 1970. Her educational background includes a Diploma in Arts & Sciences from Vancouver City College in 1972. In 1974 Carol completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Anthropology, at the UBC. In 1976 she received a Certificate in Social Anthropology from Cambridge University in Cambridge, UK and in 1996 she received a Ph.D. from the University of Leicester, UK in Museum Studies. Mayer began working at the Museum of Anthropology in 1987 as Curator of Collections, later appointed Curator of Ethnology: Pacific; Ceramics and Curatorial Department Head (to 2021).
