Description

A set of 1 leaf-shaped and 2 round appliques, beaded. Parts ‘a’ and ‘b’ are roundels, fully beaded at centre in concentric circles of blue, yellow, pink, and white, with part ‘a’ also having a circle of green. Backing is undyed canvas. Around the beading are pieces of notched felt in red and black, featuring a line of white buttons. Part ‘c’ is of similar construction, with concentric drop shapes beaded in colours of yellow, blue, white and pink, surrounded by black notched felt that also features white buttons.

Narrative

Sandra Dent's grandfather (Gervase Edward Gale) was a missionary and principal of St. Paul's School at Cardston, Alberta, on the Blood Reserve, c. 1904-1910. Her grandmother, Hattie May is said to have collected the Blood (Kainai) objects in MOA accessions 3194 and 3239.
