Description

Large cylindrical drum with skin membrane stretched over six large angled wood pegs. Deep relief carvings around the side of four standing male and female figures and one large disembodied head. A male and female figure each hold a staff in their left hand, and offering plate in their right. On the opposite side is a drummer and a dancer figure. There are four short feet at the base.

Narrative

Collected by Lieber in Abeokuta, southwestern Nigeria. Lieber was living in Nigeria, from 1965-1970, lecturing at the University of Ibadan, under the auspices of CIDA.
